Salary is commensurate with years of experience indicated at time of application submittal. Experience not disclosed or documented at the time of application will not be considered for initial step placement.
* Responsible for the administration of all anesthetic agents and adjuvants to the patients across Cook County Health (CCH) undergoing surgical, obstetrical, and other diagnostic procedures; administers oxygen and other anesthetic gases, and administers intravenous anesthetics, analgesics, and regional anesthesia, in addition to intravenous solutions, blood and blood product
* Responsible for the management of airway and the support of vital functions, including induction, intubation, and the maintenance of anesthesia
* Supports the patient's ventilation, whether manually or through the use of a mechanical ventilator, and for the monitoring of the physiologic response of the patient to anesthesia and surgery through the appropriate use of electrocardiography, pulse oximetry, and capnography, in addition to the measurement of blood gases and electrolytes when appropriate
* Continuously monitors and interprets the patient's vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate and volume, including invasive monitoring) and bodily functions (temperature, urinary output, etc.) during anesthesia and surgery
* Maintains an accurate record of all anesthetics, medications, and fluids used during the anesthesia
* Provides professional observation and support of care until the patient has regained control of his/her vital functions
* Recognizes any undesirable responses and takes appropriate corrective action, including the request for consultation by an anesthesiologist when the patient exhibits an abnormal response to anesthesia, to any medications administered, or to the surgical procedure itself
* Attends clinical conferences held by the Department of Anesthesiology, most particularly the weekly Morbidity & Mortality Conference and the Anesthesiology Grand Rounds
* Attends anesthesia meetings sponsored by the local, state, and national American Association of Nurse Anesthetists Association and the meetings of local, state and national societies of anesthesiologists when desirable or permissible
* Participates in required educational programs for hospital fire, safety and other required programs
* Attends departmental scheduled staff meetings
* Keeps abreast and increase knowledge of current anesthesia trends and practice
* Participates in departmental Quality Assurance (QA) projects, morbidity & mortality reports, conferences, and presentations
* Participates in instruction, supervision, evaluation, and professional guidance for rotating student nurse anesthetist from Rush University Nurse Anesthesia program
* Anticipates completion of successful anesthesia clinical rotations, with increasing level during student nurse anesthesia education (Letter from Program Director/Designee indicating such).
* Performs other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois
- Currently licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois
- Master's Degree from an accredited nurse anesthesia program OR eligibility to complete Master's Degree at an accredited nurse anesthesia program two weeks prior to starting employment (Must provide original copy of college or university transcript OR a letter from program director or designee stating eligibility status to graduate at the time of interview). Current State of Illinois Advanced Practice License and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesia certificate is required by the first day employment)
- Current State of Illinois Advanced Practice License and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesia certificate is required OR the ability to obtain State of Illinois Advanced Practice License and CRNA certification two weeks prior to starting employment
- Must possess progressive experience and advanced knowledge in a specialized area of clinical nursing is required
- Must possess an active CPR card or have to ability to obtain one within two (2) weeks of starting. (Must provide proof at time of interview if already obtained)
- Must possess an active Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or have to ability to obtain one within two (2) weeks of starting. (Must provide proof at time of interview if already obtained)
- Must possess an active Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or have to ability to obtain one within two (2) weeks of starting. (Must provide proof at time of interview if already obtained)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Current experience and applied knowledge of all anesthetic agents and adjuvants, all anesthesia machines, instruments and monitoring equipment used in the administration of anesthesia, as well as practical experience in providing all types of anesthesia
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
- Knowledge to provide anesthesia services, including but not limited to monitored anesthesia care, regional, and general anesthesia.
- Knowledge of anesthesia and related pharmacology agents to provide anesthesia services including but not limited to general, local, monitored anesthesia care and regional anesthesia.
- Ability to work any shift.
- Meet the minimum qualifications for the position.

- Attach a copy of their DD 214, DD 215 or NGB 22 (Notice of Separation at time of application filing). MUST MEET REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AT TIME OF APPLICATION
Must successfully meet the credentialing standards established by the Cook County Health to include a State of Illinois APN license and any other license, certification or specialized training, etc. no later than two (2) weeks prior to the candidate's start date.
*Degrees awarded outside the United States with the exception of those awarded in one of the United States' territories and Canada must be credentialed by an approved U.S. credential evaluation service belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE). Original credentialing documents must be presented at time of interview.
